President Trump still has the power to stop this. He’s surrounded by enemies that he has appointed, enemies that even brag about their sabotage of his Administration in The New York Times. He needs to ignore his advisors and fight for the platform he was elected on. If he doesn’t, he has no one else to blame for what is coming.

Does anyone believe he’ll do anything useful?  After all, there all those Big Macs, tweets, jackass comments, and “negs” – and that’s more than enough to make the fanboys swoon in onanistic ecstasy.

The Rise of the Alt-Right gets off to a promising start. In chapter one, “The Emergence of the Alt-Right,” Main defines his terms and introduces his cast of characters. In addition to reading, Main did interviews with Peter Brimelow, John Derbyshire, Mike Enoch, Brad Griffin, Kevin MacDonald, Richard Spencer, Jared Taylor, and me.

Dear God, what a crew.  MacDonald has done good work in the past, as did Taylor in the 1990s and early 2000s, but the rest of them?  That’s an embarrassment.

In his discussion of intellectual progenitors of the Alt-Right, he focuses primarily upon Sam Francis, Paul Gottfried, Kevin MacDonald, and Michael Levin.

Main regards the Alt-Right as “far more radical and dangerous than the right-wing extremism of past decades” because of its “underlying ideology” (p. 4). 

Which is what?  The same dogmas from the “right wing extremism of the past decades” but with a veneer of “youth culture” and Millennial jackassery?

He thinks that White Nationalists today are “intellectually and rhetorically sophisticated”—but only “relative to neo-Nazis or Ku Klux Klan supporters” (p. 7). By his own standards, he judges Alt-Right thought to be “abysmal”...

Well, he's right about that.

Main distills four distinctive features of Alt-Right thought: (1) “A rejection of liberal democracy,” which he identifies with the principle that “All men are created equal.” (2) “White racialism,” which he insists on identifying with white supremacism. (3) “Anti-Americanism,” because we believe that our race should command a higher loyalty than our nation. (4) “Vitriolic rhetoric.” “The movement rejects the standards ethics of controversy and indulges in race-baiting, coarse ethnic humor, prejudicial stereotyping, vituperative criticism, and the flaunting of extremist symbols” (p. 8). This last point, of course, is a very poor fit for Taylor, Brimelow, Derbyshire, and most of the other figures Main discusses. This is just one more reason to finally bury the Alt-Right “brand,” which is dead and getting stinky. 

Err…who was it who promoted the Alt Right and said that "the Alt Right is White nationalism or it is nothing at all?" On the other hand, who criticized the Alt Right from the beginning, asserted the dangers of Alt Right “movement” hegemony, and predicted its downfall?  Readers of this blog know the answers to those questions, eh?  Hint: one is Johnson and the other is Sallis. Just match the right individual to the appropriate memes and predictions that were written.

I simply refer to myself as a White Nationalist.

That sounds a bit too pan-European.  Let’s emphasize ethnonationalism and intra-European ethnic cleansing now instead, shall we?  And let's be honest here, Greg.  Turn back the clock a couple of years and you were proud to identify as "Alt Right" - at exactly the same time that EGI Notes was routinely attacking the "Alt Right brand" that you now classify as "dead" and "stinky."

In his second chapter, “How Big is the Alt-Right?” Main compares the web traffic of mainstream and Alt-Right webzines. He understands metapolitics, so he recognizes that the quality of an audience matters more than its quantity…

The Far Right is in trouble then.

In chapter three, “From Right-Wing Extremism to the Postpaleos,” Main deals with Samuel Francis, Paul Gottfried, Kevin MacDonald, and Michael Levin as the intellectual founders of the Alt Right. 

Gottfried and Levin are Jews. Francis was OK, but did write some stupid things in his time. MacDonald’s work on the Jews and on group evolutionary strategies are classic and had a great influence on my own worldview.  I’m less positive about the direction of TOO over the last 5 years or so. In any case, I do not think those four are “the intellectual founders of the Alt Right.”  Beavis and Butthead would be more appropriate.

Main’s emphasis on Francis and Gottfried makes sense given that Richard Spencer emerged from the paleoconservative context. It also makes sense if Main views the Alt-Right through neoconservative lenses, since paleoconservativism was a reaction to neoconservatism. But if Main wanted to understand the thinkers who most influenced the movement’s criticisms of liberal democracy, he should have asked.  I’d love to know what Brimelow, Derbyshire, Taylor, etc. would say.

Pick some Jewish and Chinese authors, I suppose.

Most of the younger people on the Alt-Right, however, are not “postpaleos” but “postlibertarians,” and I suspect that with this population Hans-Hermann Hoppe had many times the influence of Sam Francis.

That's one reason why the Alt Right is a disaster.  Libertarianism is, almost literally, a retarded political theory, and it is, literally, incompatible with racial interests in the real world of a clash of civilizations.  I simply cannot trust anyone who was once a libertarian.  There’s some basic flaw there.

Main paints a laughable picture of academia as a place in which the disinterested pursuit of truth trumps all political concerns. 

In my experience, the exact opposite is true: political concerns trump all disinterested pursuit of truth.

Elsewhere in the book, he appeals to the “consensus” of impartial scientific researchers who deny that race is a meaningful biological category (p. 178)…

Main is lying.  Race is a meaningful biological construct and can be assayed via genetic testing, with near 100% accuracy for, at least, the major continental population groups.

…and that racial differences in intelligence are primarily due to nature, not nurture (p. 179)…

Another lie.

…and who affirm that mankind is causing global warming (p. 178).

The jury is still out on that.

That’s true, Rich.  But, then, isn’t the Alt Wrong (you know, the ones who threw you under the bus over “Heilgate” and who wistfully email Jewish correspondents on the possibility of you getting shot) A-OK on this?  And wasn’t it written that “dating Asian girls is a ‘rite of passage’ for the Alt Right?”

Hey, Sessions worshippers – don’t you think this is worthy of indictment?  Not just the possibility of a cursory “investigation” – which I’m skeptical would even happen anyway? Speaking of Sessions, where is the Justice Department, regarding this?  How about the Secret Service?  Do you need any more evidence that Antifa is an integral part of the Establishment?  It might as well be a branch of government as this point.

This is the sort of in-depth Breezy Steve post that all you suckers who support VDARE are paying for.  And, Ron, don’t you think you should be getting “more bang for the buck” as well?  At least insist on  some long, rambling commentaries on real estate, golf courses, and PISA scores (all PISA, all the time!).
