Reality Contra Johnson, 8/20/19

Why Trump won.

Greg Johnson continuously gaslights his readers to accept the nonsense that Trump is sincere since he could have won the nomination and election by being an ideological clone of Jeb Bush but chose not to. Thus, Trump really believed in what he professed during the campaign, he wasn't an obvious fraud and buffoon as I stated back then, no, Trump, a "man of genuine greatness," really meant all that he said, and his supporters in Der Movement cannot be criticized for believing it.

According to this absurd "take" on the election, it was Trump's charming personality and not his right-wing populism that led to victory.  Of course, in my opinion, all of this is justification for Johnson to refuse to admit being wrong about Trump - wrong on a level that is astonishing - so that his position as a "movement leader" can be safeguarded from legitimate criticism about his bad judgment.

In my opinion, Trump won ONLY because he staked out positions to appeal to White voters feeling demographically swamped and who wanted someone to defend their interests.

Let's see what others have said.

From before the election, but after Trump won the nomination:
Most of Trump’s supporters back him not because of his rudeness and brutality but despite it. They think it worthwhile to pay the price of such outbursts because of other things for which they think Trump stands—say, his critique of illegal immigration, international trade agreements, or our foreign policy.

Here is the PNAS study.  Read it well.  Hmmm...if anxiety about loss of White majority status was a major driver for Trump support in 2016, then does it make sense that these same voters would have supported Trump if he had mimicked Jeb's open borders, pro-amnesty, pro-immigration stance toward demographic change?   That political science study clearly supports Sallis and utterly refutes Johnson.

Trump himself understood it:
In the same rally, he pointed out something that voters at his events frequently raise — that despite reservations about his personality, they approve of his message on tackling illegal immigration, hitting Isis harder, and doing better deals around the world.
The reality is quite clear. The facts are quite clear.  What is not clear is why anyone in the "movement" continues to support Johnson.

So, is this one of the voices of WN 2.0 or WN 3.0?  Inquiring minds want to know!
