Song Lyrics Analysis
Song for Ted Sallis.
A tongue-in-cheek analysis of these song lyrics. Of course, the song is really about a comic book character, but let’s have some fun anyway.
Into the source of a squall
I inevitably fall
Toward the well-spring of all agony
Yes, I fell into the agony of Der Movement and spent a significant part of my life as a shabbos sud stepandfetchit. Falling “toward the well-spring of all agony” indeed.
Shuffling endlessly
"Shuffling endlessly" = many years parroting “movement” dogma.
Whether or not it was always going to be this way
It only mattered yesterday
I am awake. Therefore, those errors “only mattered yesterday.” But I remember them today and for all time to come.
No skin like the skin you woke up in
No skin like the skin you woke up in
I woke up in swarthoid skin, and that is the only way that Der Movement views me and people like me.
Up from the earth and the clay
Melting away
Never lose enough to find my form
Trudge through the storm
Wait in hope
For some as yet undiscovered isotope
Well, there’s no quick fix, no “undiscovered isotope.” You have to “trudge through the storm” of the System and Der Movement and come up with your own solution – a New Movement.
No skin like the skin you woke up in
No skin like the skin you woke up in
See above.
When at last
The die gets cast
When you disavow Der Movement.
Read the numbers out loud
With your head bowed
Try to find a face to focus on
But the memory's gone
No, my memory of Der Movement's perfidy is clear and strong.
Wherever my former self went
It was an accident
Try to picture him in my mind's eye
Say goodbye
Not an accident that I woke up. But I do say goodbye to that “former self.” Bye, bye, shabbos sud.
No skin like the skin you woke up in
No skin like the skin you woke up in
Again, as above.
