An Appeal to William H. Regnery II
A letter to Mr. Regnery.
Dear Mr. Regnery,
This is Ted Sallis, a White nationalist who has been involved in pro-White activism in America for the last twenty five years (and I was sympathetic for the cause before then as well). I do not know to what extent you are aware of me, and if you are, if this awareness is positive or negative. I have written for The Occidental Quarterly, The Occidental Observer, Counter-Currents, and American Renaissance as Ted Sallis or Mike Rienzi (a few articles were under other names, but most were as Sallis or Rienzi – but was as “JWH” at Majority Rights). More recently, I have focused on my own blogs, such as EGI Notes and Western Destiny.
It is possible that recently you have become aware of negative criticisms of me and my work from various “movement leaders” – most of this has apparently been “behind the scenes” but Greg Johnson has been public with his attacks (note the mention of the "better people" and the implied covert whispering campaign):
Counter-Currents @NewRightAmerica
He's intelligent, but his intellect has been ruined by insanity. I regret tolerating him and people like Parrott as long as I did. Better people saw it as indecent. It harmed my reputation.
In any case, I read your recent piece in The Occidental Observer, the main thesis of which can be summarized as:
One birthday short of becoming an octogenarian, I charge the dissident right with the mission to begin the intergenerational process of founding an independent political jurisdiction in which anti-millenarian whites can gather, regroup and flourish…We have entered very dangerous times for Whites in America. The summer riots of 2020 carried out with the blessing of much of the Establishment and the entire left is a clear indication that the American racial experiment is careening toward disaster. Whites need a separate political jurisdiction.
I of course agree with the objective (essentially, a “White ethnostate” in America) that you have “charged the dissident right” with. I assume that you mentioned your age to emphasize your perception of passing time – for yourself and the White race – and the need for the “dissident right” to get its act together before it is too late. Perhaps the implication also is that you want to use the remaining years that you have left to do what you can to make the aforementioned objective into a reality.
The question must be asked whether the “dissident right” as it exists, at least in America, is in any way up to the task you have charged them with. More than fifty years ago, Dr. Revilo Oliver produced a video supporting The National Youth Alliance; that video, titled After Fifty Years, chronicled fifty years of “movement failure” – and that was recorded in 1969! And since Oliver’s video we’ve had more than another fifty years of endless failure. Can we now admit that there is an inherent serious problem in “this thing of ours?”
Any sort of comprehensive analysis of this failure could fill an entire book, but here let me very briefly mention the Alt Right fiasco, the latest “movement” iteration, the latest version of utter failure, a tragedy that wasted the golden opportunity generated by the right-wing populism of 2016 and the deeper meaning behind the White reaction that led to the election of Donald Trump.
The Alt Right is (more or less) universally now regarded as a failure, and The Rise and Fall of the Alt Right may be a major chapter in the sort of book mentioned in the preceding paragraph. When the Alt Right first came on the scene, I was skeptical (having experienced previous failed “movement” fads) but I was willing to give it a chance, as long as it restricted itself to representing only one faction of the broader “dissident right.” I made clear that I was NOT Alt Right, and wanted nothing to do with the group, which I saw as warmed over “movement” nonsense with an asinine “youth culture” veneer. If the Alt Right had restricted itself to being the “youth wing” of the American “dissident right,” and had focused on building its own brand in its own narrow niche, maybe it could have worked out, at least to a limited extent.
But, alas, no. Instead, the Alt Right had grandiose visions of subsuming the entirety of the American (and in some cases, international) Far Right within its own form of activism. Older activists, who should have known better, jumped on the Alt Right bandwagon. Self-styled “movement” intellectuals declared that “the Alt Right is White nationalism or it is nothing at all.” Alt Right activists had a hegemonic vision of being the end-all-and-be-all of American White racial activism, and the media (for their own anti-White purposes) joined in to promote that narrative, tainting us all with the juvenile silliness of Pepe, Kek, rabid Trump worship, fools making drinking gallons of milk into an racial activist statement, drunken podcasts, poorly thought out rallies and speeches, etc.
By the 2016 election I was openly critiquing the Alt Right and very sharply distancing myself from it; by late 2016 and early 2017 I was openly denouncing the Alt Right, predicting its collapse, and openly stating that equating the Alt Right with the entire Far Right would severely damage us all when the inevitable collapse occurred. I was proven correct in these prescient predictions. To me that outcome was obvious, just as it was obvious to me that Trump was a vulgar ignorant buffoon and a fraud, which I also stated at the time, including before the 2016 election. That the “leaders” of the “dissident right” did not see any of this, which all seemed very obvious to me, raises the very real question as to whether they have the judgment and ability to perform the task you have laid before them.
I assume that the story of the collapse of the Alt Right is no doubt well known to you, centered on Hailgate (overblown in my opinion), Unite the Right (truly a disaster), the aforementioned scandals and infiltrations, the silliness and immaturity, the poorly planned and failed college speaking tours, the delusions about Donald Trump, the fever dreams that “the Alt Right memed Donald Trump to victory,” the attacks and deplatforming, the feuding between various Alt Right factions, the ideological vacuity, the cringeworthy support for and endorsements of the likes of Gabbard and Yang and now Biden, and all the rest. We have reached the point where prominent American pro-White activists who four years ago were lecturing us all about what the Alt Right is now pretend that they don’t know what the term Alt Right really means. Within the history of “movement” failure, the collapse of the Alt Right has been a defining event of world-historical importance.
Let's discuss some details. In a (illegally recorded) leaked conversation with a prominent Alt Right figure, a young man asserted that he was sexually assaulted (unwanted groping being a sexual assault) by another man at an Alt Right meeting, consistent with accusations of gay sexual harassment of young men in the Alt Right. Further, in that recording, we had confirmation of a “gay cabal” within the Alt Right; I had been warned ~15 years ago of the existence of such a cabal within the “movement” and I today regret that I didn’t take that warning seriously. Of course, sexual hang-ups in the Alt Right are not limited to homosexuality – thus, one activist claimed that dating East Asian women was a “rite of passage” in the Alt Right. Further, a well-known individual associated with the Alt Right, himself married to an East Asian woman, wrote a blog post that included questioning why child porn is illegal. And the potential scandals were not only those revolving around sex but about drug abuse as well; in that aforementioned recorded conversion, the young man also accused some Alt Righters, including prominent figures, of illegal drug use, and that included “doing cocaine” at a well-known racialist meeting also associated with the Alt Right. Then we had the infiltration scandals, the worst being of a young homosexual (surprise!) Swedish (surprise!) anti-racist who infiltrated the American and British Alt Right, writing an embarrassing expose of this experience, thus demonstrating to all the shocking lack of maturity and judgment among the Alt Right leadership.
Alt Righters like to preach to us about “optics.” Any positive mention of Fascism, including its National Socialist variant, is taboo. Also - how dare we praise Yockey! Uniforms are bad – but apparently dressing like Batman or Captain America for failed rallies is good. How about other aspects of optics? Maybe having young men molested by older homosexuals at meetings is bad optics. Maybe having an infiltrator give the keynote address at your meeting – on the topic of “the dangers of infiltration,” no less! – is bad optics. Maybe attempting to normalize child porn is bad optics as well. Drug abuse seems to be bad optics. Maybe some would deem it hypocritical to denounce miscegenation while tolerating White male/Asian female couples; hypocrisy is usually bad optics. The constant “dissident right” panhandling, the constant rattling of the tin cup, in the context of constant failure, is bad optics as well.
Thus, grifting is in my opinion also a problem. While constantly crying about a lack of funds, the “movement” has taken in millions of dollars in donations and have essentially squandered them – money that could have been used to build real infrastructure, including much needed legal foundations for the Far Right. There are some in the “movement” who apparently have as a main objective raising money so as to compensate themselves rather than achieve goals for the good of the cause. I have nothing against useful activists being compensated, being supported so they can focus on doing good work. I do have a problem with financially rewarding endless failure, and with people being very well compensated for doing things that others do for free. This is a monumental waste of relatively limited resources (relatively limited in that millions of dollars pale compared to what the Left has at its disposal).
I have been writing about the problems of the “movement” at my blogs for years, and these criticisms no doubt trigger the attacks against me, private and public, by “movement leaders” who see their status threatened. But the issue here is the well-being, the interests, of Whites as a race, and of their civilization; the wounded feelings of failed “leaders” should be inconsequential. More importantly, on my blogs I diagnose the reasons for these problems and also offer solutions and a way forward. Perhaps, Mr. Regnery, you may disagree with some, or even all, of my diagnoses and solutions; however, I do hope that we are at least in agreement that serious problems exist, and that the objectives that you are fighting for will not be achieved with “business as usual.” Therefore, I hope that you will leverage your position in the American Right to press for much needed reform in the American activist scene, reform that puts the interests of Race and Civilization above that of self-interested, rent-seeking “leaders.” This letter is therefore an appeal to you to to act to press for such reform.
Wishing you well;
Best regards,
Ted Sallis
