Can't believe the callousness of some people. I've chosen to continue wearing a mask because I don't want to risk being an "unknown" carrier of the virus and then giving it to someone who could possibly die from it. Hmm…Der Movement catches up eventually.

Now, Zman’s complaints are for the most part correct (if overblown); epigenetics is being grossly over-interpreted by both the Left and the Traditionalist Right.

However, as I wrote:

While I believe that epigenetic influences are grossly overestimated by ideologues of both the Left and Right, who have political reasons for de-emphasizing genetic determinism, it is wrong to lurch in the opposite direction and completely disregard potential epigenetic mechanisms.

We cannot completely rule out epigenetic mechanisms as a secondary, reinforcing, weaker mechanism for race-culture, the primary mechanisms being genetic differences and learned culture.  By a crude analogy to physics, genetics and culture are “strong forces” (e.g., nuclear) while epigenetics is a weak force (e.g., gravity).  But gravity, while being a weak force, is somewhat relevant to someone falling off a building. When dealing with objects with large mass, like the Earth, gravity is strong in aggregate; the same could be held for weak epigenetic influences that, if present over entire populations, can exert considerable racio-cultural force.

Having said that, my work over the years makes clear that I am NOT any sort of proponent of epigenetics as a significant factor in racial differences – those differences being CLEARLY genetic in origin.  Thus, the EGI Notes post linked above spends 99% of its content discussing Gene-Culture interactions, with epigenetics as a side note. 

In summary: Epigenetics may have a small and secondary but not completely insignificant role in reinforcing certain isolated and specific characteristics that are primarily determined by the interplay of genes and culture. However, the environmental influences that possibly exert effects through epigenetics must be consistent over time if you wish the epigenetics to be equally stable.  Epigenetic effects of starvation, for example, can be passed down from parent to child but it is unlikely that this will be carried down endlessly through time…unless the Dutch are continuously subjected to famines every few decades.  So, a consistent environmental factor could in theory continuously reinforce an epigenetic modification, but a one-off event is not expected to permanently alter a people’s epigenome.  Of course, given shifting gene frequencies over time, and effects of selection, changing environments will alter a populations’ genome as well.

Another analogy may be useful here.  Imagine an important book that describes Culture.  The main content of the text, the main text, the vast bulk of the words, explanations, meanings, and arguments are the Genes. In contrast, Epigenetics would be the footnotes to that main text. Many of the footnotes would be relatively unimportant; however, several of them would be very important clarifications of the meaning of the main text. In subsequent editions of the book, one would find that the footnotes are changing more frequently (additions, deletions, modifications) than is the main text; every once in a while, a significant change in the main text happens and that would be a particularly important new edition of the book.

That, given what we know now, puts things in the proper perspective.  The Traditionalists (and the Left) are wrong to elevate epigenetics as somehow the equal (or superior!) to genetics; the HBDers are wrong to equate the reality of epigenetics to crude Lamarckianism.  Both sides are politically motivated.  Real science keeps on investigating, though – speculating, hypothesizing, testing, and evaluating

And how about this analogy – the core reality of racial and cultural differences constitute the “genetics” of racial activism; while more ephemeral phenomena – influenced by people’s agendas – such as Traditionalism or HBD are the “epigenetics” of racial activism, mere footnotes (and in those cases, not clarifying at all).

Let us now consider some “words of wisdom” – dating from the mid-late 1990s – of a well-known “movement leader’ who shall remain nameless since this was from a private conversation.

First, with respect to the situation in Russia at that time, this “leader” suggested that it would be good if the Communist Party came back into power there, since they were “anti-Jewish” and “anti-globalist.” By that logic, the Islamic takeover of Europe is a good thing, since they are also anti-Jewish and anti-globalist.

Then, in response to my suggestion that this “leader” and his group utilize stock market investment (and other financial instruments) to grow their portfolio and hence have more funds for their activism – “no, I don’t want to do that, because playing the stock market is like gambling,”

Of course, proper fund investing, starting from that time and extending 20 years (until fairly recently) would have yielded an approximate 200% increase in funds.  Other investments would have yielded a greater positive outcome.

Thus, I’m sure readers of this blog will be shocked – shocked I say! – to learn that Sallis was right and The Fearless Leader wrong.  But, hey, keep on following these leaders because….affirmative action.

Chinese diplomats, as Lloyd-Damnjanovic wrote in her September 2018 report, have been “employing intimidating modes of conversation.”

Diplomats have also infringed on academic freedom by complaining about on-campus speakers and events, by trying to coerce faculty, and by threatening retaliation against American university programs in China.

Sounds like a man with some regrets. This confirms my judgment of Sessions as a lieutenant of the MAGA revolution: overly principled in an age when principles are mocked and the principled are bulldozed. He probably thought Mueller was a man of integrity who would clear Trump in short order. I think he sees America for what it is now, and it has stolen his spirit. I bet he left his post relieved, knowing the time had come for men hungry for open warfare to replace principled genteel conservatives like himself.

Sessions did do a lot of “silent executing” behind the scenes to gut the open borders bureaucracy. But his recusal from the Russia Hoax was a blow to not only Trump, but to the MAGA agenda, and it was a costly mistake. I think this bothers him. And I think he was a Trump loyalist. He deserves an honorable goodbye, but it’s time to move on.

Meet “Jerry” – 

The Justice Department announced today that Jerry Chun Shing Lee, 53, of Hong Kong, was indicted by a federal grand jury sitting in the Eastern District of Virginia with one count of conspiracy to gather or deliver national defense information to aid a foreign government, and two counts of unlawfully retaining documents related to the national defense…

…Lee is a U.S. citizen who speaks fluent Chinese.  According to the indictment, Lee was a case officer for the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) until 2007.  After leaving the CIA, Lee resided in Hong Kong.  The indictment alleges that in April 2010, two Chinese intelligence officers (IOs) approached Lee and offered to pay him for information.  The indictment alleges that Lee received taskings from the IOs until at least 2011.  The taskings allegedly requested that Lee provide documents and information relating to the national defense of the United States.  According to the indictment, the IOs provided Lee with a series of email addresses so that he could communicate covertly with them.  The indictment further alleges that Lee prepared documents responsive to the taskings, made numerous unexplained cash deposits, and repeatedly lied to the U.S. government during voluntary interviews when asked about travel to China and his actions overseas. 

In August 2012, Lee and his family left Hong Kong to return to the United States to live in northern Virginia.  While traveling back to the United States, Lee and his family had hotel stays in Hawaii and Virginia.  During each of the hotel stays, FBI agents conducted court-authorized searches of Lee’s room and luggage, and found that Lee was in unauthorized possession of materials relating to the national defense.  Specifically, agents found two books containing handwritten notes that contained classified information, including but not limited to, true names and phone numbers of assets and covert CIA employees, operational notes from asset meetings, operational meeting locations and locations of covert facilities.  Agents also found a thumb drive on which was stored a document later determined to contain information classified at the Secret level.  During voluntary interviews with the FBI, Lee admitted preparing the document in response to taskings from the IO.

A scientist from China has been sentenced to 10 years in prison in the United States for stealing seeds of genetically modified American rice, the Department of Justice announced Wednesday. 

The Chinese scientist, Weiqiang Zhang, 51, was a legal permanent resident living in Manhattan, Kansas. He was working as a rice breeder at Ventria Bioscience, a biopharmaceutical company that creates genetically modified rice. He stole hundreds of rice seeds from the company that had cost millions of dollars and taken years of research to develop, according to the Justice Department. He kept the seeds in his home. 

Then in 2013, United States Customs and Border Protection agents found the seeds in luggage belonging to researchers who visited Zhang from China. They were on their way back to China with the seeds. 

In February, he was convicted of three counts: Conspiring to steal trade secrets, conspiring to transport stolen property across states lines and transporting stolen property between states.  

“Weiqiang Zhang betrayed his employer by unlawfully providing its proprietary rice seeds to representatives of a Chinese crop institute,” Acting Assistant Attorney General John Cronan said in a statement. “Today’s sentence demonstrates the significant consequences awaiting those who would steal trade secrets from American companies.” 

Hey, what's the problem? Just a little exchange of ideas along the Silk Road, right? A cancer researcher has resigned from The Ohio State University (OSU) in Columbus after the institution determined he had committed misconduct in eight papers. His work in designing anticancer compounds had led to millions of dollars in funding and multiple patents, as well as two compounds in clinical trials. 

According to a 75-page report released today by OSU, a committee determined that cancer scientist Ching-Shih Chen was guilty of “deviating from the accepted practices of image handling and figure generation and intentionally falsifying data” in 14 instances in eight papers. The report recommends that Chen work with co-authors and journals to produce an “immediate retraction” of those eight papers, published between 2006 and 2014. 

The investigation also prompted OSU to temporarily shut down research involving a compound developed by Chen; a phase Ib trial was suspended in June 2017… 

…Chen resigned from OSU in September 2017. One month earlier, he stepped down as director of the Institute of Biological Chemistry in Taiwan… 

…According to the report, the investigation was prompted by allegations of misconduct in early 2016, involving six papers. The more the university investigated, the more potential issues it uncovered. The report notes: “In some cases, Dr. Chen indicated that there were no laboratory notebooks kept by members of the lab, rather individuals only had weekly progress reports and no daily records of the experiments they conducted.”… 

…The eight papers slated for retraction have been collectively cited more than 300 times, according to Clarivate Analytics.

If they are forced to live in the same polity as aliens like Choo, they may as well exploit her expertise for their own benefit.  So, yes, let her make you healthy, and then use your robust good health to engage in activism with the objective of sending her and her kind on a slow boat to China; repatriate them to where they belong.

WNs have to learn, in personal interactions with diverse peoples, to maintain polite and professional relations (as long as they treat you the same) even though you may hate them.  Certainly, you do not need to show them any personal warmth (and should not), but polite and professional relations in circumstances that are unavoidable allows you to do your business and get back to the goals that you need to focus on.  Keep your eyes on the prize, my friends.  Do not get distracted by petty displays of cheap bigotry.  Ultimately, your goals are political, not personal.

So, let Choo treat you, all the time imagining her weeping bitter tears as she is repatriated to her pestilential ethnic homeland.  And, by the way, whether Choo is Chinese or Korean doesn't matter, she can go home either way... after all, the slow boat to China can always make a stop at South Korea, if necessary.

U.S. officials warned Jared Kushner earlier this year that his friendship with Wendi Deng Murdoch could be used as a conduit by the Chinese government, The Wall Street Journal reported on Monday.

Unnamed sources told the outlet that counterintelligence officials had warned Kushner that Murdoch, a Chinese-American businesswoman who was married to News Corp. founder Rupert Murdoch, could leverage her close relationship with Kushner and his wife, Ivanka Trump, to push the interests of the Chinese government. 

The Wall Street Journal is owned by News Corp.

Among U.S. officials’ reported concerns was a proposed garden in Washington, D.C., funded by the Chinese government. The $100 million project has reportedly been declared a national security risk due to a tall tower that’s part of the design, which intelligence officials worry could be used for surveillance.
